Ana Novo Barros is an Associate Professor with Habilitation in Chemistry at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). She served as the Director of the Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB) for five years and the Institute for Innovation, Capacity Building, and Sustainability of Agri-Food Production (Inov4Agro) for one and a half years. She is responsible for the Phytochemicals Laboratory and serves as the Coordinator of the Agri-Food Quality Group. Her research primarily focuses on the identification, separation, and recovery of functional molecules from various natural products, as well as their application as ingredients and bioactive compounds in food. Her ultimate goal is to extract high-value molecules and repurpose them for added value in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Over the years, she has received numerous awards and distinctions. She has published more than 130 scientific works, including research articles, reviews, and editorials, in high-impact journals within the Food Science and Technology field (h-index of 35, SCOPUS, January 2025). She has also edited two books, authored several book chapters, and registered eight national patents. She coordinates the European project WASTELESS (HORIZON-CL6-2022-FARM2FORK-01-08).
